What is BARC-GRP?

BARC-GRP or BARC - Green Race Project is a strategic campaign launched last October 2019 (in celebration of BARC's 2nd year anniversary) geared to uphold commitments to our advocacy in support to the 3 among the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) which are the following:

goal3

GOAL 3: Good Health and Well-being

Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages.

goal14

GOAL 14: Life Below Water

Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development.

goal15

Goal 15: Life On Land

Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, reverse land degradation, and halt biodiversity loss.

The campaign includes organizing a one-of-a-kind race event called the ‘Breakaway Challenge’ as the game-changer in the sports of running. It is designed to promote a run-for-a-cause activity with a ‘twist’ of community service set in a strategically chosen location with points of interest.

Under this project, below are the key objectives:

  • To support the above 3 chosen SDGs as part of the United Nations blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all.
  • To promote ecotourism and ecological preservation of an attraction where participants are encouraged to contribute to its welfare as responsible athletes.
  • To challenge both participants and the local community in a GREENER+SAFER & FUN race through a cost-effective outdoor sport event.
  • Part of the event proceeds will aid a chosen grass-root beneficiary in the locality towards basic educational assistance.

ALEGRIA BREAKAWAY CHALLENGE (ABC 2019) - is the very first event organized by BARC under BARC-GRP. The first ever running experience on an open trail with a twist of ecotourism through responsible running. This kick-off event took place last November 24, 2019 - Sunday, held in Alegria, Cebu, Philippines with routes traversing the 3 major waterfall attractions namely: The Cancalanog Falls, Camba-is Falls, and Montpeller Falls.

Rather than just a pure running event, ABC 2019 is an eco-challenge with a twist of plogging and seed-planting activities as prerequisites to accomplish the race. The event highlights a breath-taking 6km (PACESETTER) and 33km (ELITE) race categories from start to finish. The ELITE category is the main event called the '3 Falls 1 Eco Run for a Cause' challenge.
